Christmas gift for a boy: something to build, colour and keep playing with

The best Christmas gift for a boy is rarely the one that says "for boys" on the box. It is the thing he loves to play. If it is cars, call-outs, dinosaurs or roads he wants to build, a wooden set that he assembles and colours himself can give hours of play with no screen and no batteries.

Every set comes in uncoloured wood, and the parts click together without glue or tools. First he builds, then he colours, and then the play begins. The sets are not made for a particular gender, and you can read more in our blog about gender-neutral toys. Here is an overview, so you can choose by what he loves.

If he loves call-outs and role play

The Fire Station has 72 pieces and 3 wooden vehicles and measures 60 × 28 cm assembled. The Police Station has 80 pieces and 3 wooden vehicles, has a jail and a lookout tower and measures 74 × 29 cm assembled. Our blog about role play with firefighters and police has ideas for getting the game going.

If he loves cars and roads

The City Gas Station is a petrol station with 32 pieces, 65 × 95 cm assembled. Rule the Roundabout is a roundabout with 24 pieces and a car, 80 × 100 cm assembled. With the Adventure Track Extension (19 pieces and 4 road connectors) the road can grow in several directions. See also our blog about a wooden car track.

If he loves dinosaurs

Volcano Escape has 56 pieces and 6 wooden dinosaurs and measures 40 × 30 cm assembled. It is recommended from age 6. Jurassic Journeys has 16 pieces and 6 dinosaurs and is recommended from age 5. Small enough for a pocket is Raptor with 5 pieces, recommended from age 4. All three belong to Crateit Quest.

Small gifts on the side

If you need a little extra gift, there are cars in Crateit Town: Turbo Racer (DKK 49), Thunder Truck (DKK 49) and Bus Adventures (DKK 49). Each has 3 pieces and is recommended for ages 5-9.

Remember the markers

The wood is uncoloured, so put a set of Crateit markers with the gift. They come with a 3 mm tip for large surfaces (DKK 129) and 1 mm for details (DKK 99), six markers in each set. Read how to colour wooden toys with markers.

Frequently asked questions

Is Crateit made for boys or girls?

The sets are not made for a particular gender. The child's own interests decide whether a fire station, a dollhouse, a dinosaur or a unicorn is the best fit.

What age are the sets for?

Crateit Town and Crateit Roomies are recommended for ages 5-9 and suitable from age 3. The other sets, for example the dinosaurs in Quest and the unicorns in Stella, have their own age shown on the product page.

Can the child assemble it alone?

The parts click together without glue or tools, and an assembly guide is included. The product pages recommend that children up to age 5 assemble together with an adult.

Do we need markers?

Yes, the sets come in uncoloured wood. Crateit markers go on layer by layer, so you can colour over them again when the play changes.

When should we order before Christmas?

We ship from our own warehouse in Odense with GLS, and delivery takes 1-3 working days. For delivery in Denmark before Christmas, order by Thursday 17 December.
