Chapter I · How it started
Affected by personal experience
Martin’s sister-in-law Cecilie lives with a rare chromosomal condition, a path full of challenges but also of a warmth all of its own. Tonny grew up with a mother who worked in care homes and sheltered workshops, and formed a deep connection early on with people who have special needs.
Both have lived close to people whose challenges have left a lasting mark on them. People who see the world in their own inspiring way, and who have just as much to give as anyone else.
That understanding has become part of the Crateit DNA.
Chapter II · Real responsibility
What does responsible production mean?
For us it means taking real responsibility for the people behind the product. Making something that contributes, to children and adults alike, to community and to the future.
We put production in the hands of people with special needs. A decision rooted in respect and affection for people who meet life with a different kind of vulnerability, and a different kind of strength.
At Crateit, there is room for everyone – regardless of the challenges life has given them. We develop toys that give children ownership and pride in what they have created themselves. At the same time, we help build identity and joy in the work for adults who have often been excluded from the labor market.

We make wooden toys that nurture children’s imagination and cognitive development, and we make them together with people who are too often overlooked in the labour market. Alone we can do little; together we can do a great deal.
