The questions we get most often about our markers.
How well do the markers cover?
Our acrylic pigment is made to cover MDF and wood exceptionally well, and 1 to 2 coats is usually enough for full coverage. The pigment sits exactly where you draw the line, does not bleed, and gives a flat, even result.
Can I colour over it again and again?
Yes. That is the whole point of our acrylic formula. Once a coat has dried it holds fast and can be painted over without the colours underneath bleeding through. So you can update the building, change the mood, or repaint it completely as often as you like.
Should I choose the 1mm or the 3mm nib?
Use the 1mm for detail such as signs, names, windows and small stamps. The 3mm is for whole surfaces like facades, roofs and roads. Most families start with the 3mm and add the 1mm once their child starts drawing in finer detail.
How many colours are in a set?
Each set holds 6 markers from the same colour family. There are five families, Nature, Forest, Pastel, Playful and Wonderland, and each comes in both 1mm and 3mm.
Which colour family should we choose?
It depends on what your child is drawn to. Playful is the classic choice, with bright, cheerful colours that suit most buildings. Nature and Forest give earthier tones. Pastel is soft and gentle, and Wonderland takes the whole world into a magical, dreamlike register.
Can the markers be used on things other than Crateit toys?
Yes. The acrylic pigment takes well to most surfaces, and works especially well on paper, canvas, untreated wood, MDF, stone and unglazed ceramics. On smooth materials such as glass and plastic it still covers, but takes a little longer to dry.
What if a marker dries out?
Always replace the cap after use and store the markers lying flat. If pigment has settled in the nib you can often get it going again by pumping the nib gently against a piece of paper. If that does not do it, write to hej@crateit.toys and we will sort it out.

Crateit's own markers are acrylic based and developed specifically to sit well on our FSC-certified MDF toys. The pigment is highly concentrated, applies precisely and gives a flat, even finish that lasts - also when the town is played with hard.
We make the markers in five colour families: Nature, Forest, Pastel, Playful and Wonderland. Each family has a character of its own, from earthy tones to a magical dream world.
Acrylic pigment in top-quality markers
We chose acrylic over water-based for one reason: coverage. The acrylic pigment binds into the material, so you can build up layers without the colours underneath bleeding through or washing each other out. The result is a durable finish that does not come off on little fingers once dry.
